About the Author... Rick Slater

The author spent fourteen years working in the nuclear industry collecting the material included in Meltdown!  Many of the events in the book are drawn from personal experience.  Raised in the small town of Middlefield, a rural town in the hills of Western Massachusetts, the author, like the characters in the book, spent several years in the U.S. Navy.  No longer in the nuclear industry, the author resides and writes in New Hampshire, accompanied by his wife Ruth, Tank The Cat, and Bea The Horse.

Description of:  Meltdown!

This novel is unique. For the first time, the culture and mind set of the people in the military and civilian nuclear power industries has been uncovered in a fictional novel. This is a story of two men, two women, and their relationship with each other and nuclear energy.

The book begins after the death of one of the men, then traces the paths that brought these people to a tragic end. The book deals with racism, sexism, homosexuality, and drugs. The descriptions of the nuclear technology are accurate and explained in simple layman's terms. It is designed to grab the reader in the first chapter and hold his/her attention throughout.

If you've ever wondered what it's like working at nuclear plants like Chernobyl and Three Mile Island, or how those people got there, this book will tell you. I worked in the military and civilian nuclear industries for fourteen years. The behavior is crude, the language is raw, and the sex is graphic. This book will scare the hell out of you.
